Kuva Africa:
Girls Change the World

At a glance:

Kuva Africa is a 501 c3 nonprofit (NGO) registered in the United States and operating in Sub-Saharan Africa since 2018. Our mission is to provide young women and girls access to mentorship communities and educational programming that will inspire them to become innovators, leaders, and changemakers in STEM fields.

Our programs are specifically targeted toward young African women between the ages of 15-25.

  • Hack the Code: Our six-week summer workshop focuses on developing skills in technology, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Sample sessions include units on learning how to code, app and web development, and data analysis.

  • Kuva Mentors: Our mentorship program pairs participants with professionals currently working in STEM fields. Mentorships take place over the course of one year and can be conducted in person or virtually.

  • K-Power Events: Kuva Africa’s virtual and in-person events include career fairs, coding seminars, networking events, and resume writing workshops. We also host livestreams on our social media platforms, including yoga and meditation practices.

  • Kuva Interns: We offer a two-month internship placement program for undergraduates, graduate students, or recent graduates, which can be completed virtually or in person.

  • Kuva Book Club: Our monthly book club features works by Black female authors blazing a trail for young women who are poised to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and STEM professionals. The group meets both virtually and in person.

This project was part of a brand story for an early-stage NGO providing STEM opportunities for women across Africa. My role was to craft concise organizational messaging highlighting company values, impact, and programming.

Kuva Africa's mission could not be accomplished without the help of our partners who have worked to ensure African women are afforded the opportunities to reach their full potential:

  • Enko Bonanjo International School: EBIS is part of a network of African international schools working to increase access to the world’s best universities for learners across Africa.

  • MTN Cameroon: MTN Cameroon is Cameroon’s largest telecommunication solutions provider. We partnered with them during an event in which participants had the opportunity to meet with women leaders in tech and learn about industry careers.

  • African Leadership Academy: Based in South Africa, ALA is developing a powerful network of young leaders working to address Africa’s greatest challenges and accelerate the continent’s growth trajectory. We were proud to partner with them for a Virtual Youth Summit that included participants from Togo, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Congo Republic, DR Congo, Mali, Benin, and Senegal.
